Here it is. What was our formal dining room is in transition. It will be a den. A parlor. A reading room. The answer is different depending on who you ask in our family. It doesn't matter what we'll call it. This is more than a home improvement project for us. It will become a space that we will use to help children in need. I'm sharing this not to pat ourselves on the back. My sole purpose in sharing is to spread awareness about an amazing non-profit organization called Safe Families. Several months ago, a friend posted about her family's involvement in the program and that one post inspired me to look into it. Below is a link to Safe Families, if you want to learn more.

Through the next few weeks and months, I'll share how we transition this space to be both a place where we can care for a child, and a functional space for us as a family when we don't have a child in our care. I have come up with some creative ways to do this that perhaps will allow you to open your home to a child in need temporarily without needing an extra bedroom.

I also hope to write about our experience as a Safe Family from the application process to the arrival of the first child in our care.

I humbly invite you to follow our family on this journey. May it inspire your family to become a Safe Family as well.
